Hero's Pet Resort has been in operation for the past 30 years. Cookie started in Rosemont, Illinois, working as a veterinary technician for Dr. John Rudawsky. As a vet tech she assisted in surgeries and all other aspects of veterinary hospital work. Dr. Rudawsky trained Cookie to groom dogs and watch for medical problems.
She started her own business in 1978.
Because of Cookie's training, Hero's boards dogs with special needs, including those with epilepsy and diabetes, and those who require assistance to walk.
Cookie is able to catch many maladies when she grooms, including tumors that require medical attention, and swelling in bladders that indicates bladder stones.
In addition to boarding and grooming, Cookie breeds and shows champion West Highland White Terriers.
